Out and About at La Maison Figaz
There are lots of things to do and places to visit all within a short drive from La Maison Figaz, including; golf, walking, fishing, cycling, horse riding, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, and boat trips to the nearby islands of Jersey and Chausey.
Summer time is the time for lots of Fetes and village dances throughout the months of June, July and August.
There are some of the cleanest and safest beaches around along the coast, both north and south of Granville, and what better than after a day on the beach, than a meal in one of the many restaurants in the local area. There is a wide variety to choose from to suit any pocket.
For the children amongst us there are plenty of attractions from zooming around on a go cart to bungee jumping for the more adventurous. Or for something more peaceful there are some lovely walks in the forest at St Sever, or for shopping with a difference why not visit a local Brocante or Depot Vente.
The world heritage site Le Mont St Michel is a must to visit, as is the town of Granville with its old town wall, museums and fish restaurants.
For those shopaholics the local town of Avranches has some interesting boutiques and tiny streets to stroll around, but for a serious days shopping then Rennes an hour down the motorway is a must! The local markets are held on each morning of the week, in different towns and villages. The largest being at St Hilaire, on Wednesday morning and after a stroll around the market, why not take a picnic, visit the park and feed the swans. Villedieu Les Poeles is 30 mins away, this small town hosts many crafts including one of the few remaining active bell foundries in France, as well as copper, watch copper pans and utensils being made, also lace making, a visit to their tuesday market is a must.
Cancale is the place for oysters and mussells, as well as all other types of sea food, there is a wide variety of restaurants, bars and creperies to suit all tastes and pockets.
Dinan, is one of the beautiful medival towns in Brittany, after exploring the town, why not walk down the cobbled streets to the river Rance, some 250ft below the town.
Parc Floral, near Fougeres is a collection of 12 beautiful themed gardens set in extensive grounds of an old Chateau.
St Malo, visit the old walled town with its fine buildings and many shops. Walk around the ramparts and enjoy the views of the sea, the boats and the beaches, only 1hr from La Maison Figaz.
Bayeux Tapestry was woven in England shortly after the battle of hastings in 1066, on the orders of odon, bishop of Bayeux, and half brother of William the Conqueror. It is 70mtr long and has 58 panels portraying the events leading up to and including the famous battle that resulted in the conquest of England.
Arromanches, visit some of the DDay landing beaches, whilst there we especialy recommend you to the 'Cinema in the round' a 360 degree nine screen cinema that places you in the centre of the action, the film "the price of freedom" uses film shot on DDay and soon afterwards, and also the present day, in more peaceful surroundings.
A trip to the Zoo and Reptillarium at Champrepus is a must for the kids.
